What is Whole-Spectrum Hemp Extract?

Kingdom Harvest rises above the fray and focuses on the utilization of the aggregate of compounds inherently in the plant…or the “Whole Spectrum”. We’ve developed unique patent-pending formulas and processes in the development of what we feel are healthier and more beneficial extracts.

Understanding the Cannabis plant

To better understand the uniqueness of Kingdom Harvest and our Whole-Spectrum extract, you have to start with the plant. The plant Cannabis sativa L. is native to Central Asia. Over millennia, humans domesticated this multifunctional plant, using many different parts of the plant for various purposes. The hemp seed is an excellent food source, containing fats rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The fiber surrounding the stalk can be utilized to form textiles, having been used in rope and garments for many centuries.

The plant also produces small extra-cellular structures called trichomes; these mushroom and spike-shaped nodules are found predominantly on the surface of the flower of the plant. Within these trichomes are found phytocannabinoids, a group of compounds with a related structure and properties. Over 100 different phytocannabinoids have been identified within the cannabis plant. The vast majority of these are present in only trace amounts and their properties and potential uses are yet unknown. This represents an exciting frontier for science moving forward.

The power and potential of Cannabis

The phytocannabinoids of greatest significance today are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). These compounds and others can be extracted from cannabis plant material and blended into products for human use. Research and popularity of these compounds and products represent the vast majority of interest into cannabis as a plant due to the effects that they have on the human body.

What has been lost in the fray, and in the early adoption of CBD as primary compound, is the potential beneficial properties of those raw precursor compounds--those acidic cannabinoids that were effectively glossed over and forgotten about. Few, but some, in the industry have taken note of the promising research on acidic cannabinoids and are taking steps beyond the average fully decarboxylated, full-spectrum CBD products.

Legalization of hemp

With the passing of the Farm Bill in 2018 and the legalization of hemp at the federal level, we’ve taken a more proactive and progressive approach in creating our extracts. We recognize CBD as an isolate, which will most likely be regarded by the FDA as a pharmaceutical, therefore not added to products intended for human consumption. This may cause some problems for companies dedicated to the use of CBD as an isolate, which is why we focus on the Whole Spectrum. The isolate is a part of the array of compounds naturally found in the plant, and more comprehensive and effective application of the plant’s benefits.
